Dr. Cristina Blanco Sío-López is ‘María Zambrano’ Senior Distinguished Researcher at the Universidade da Coruña (UDC), Spain and Principal Investigator (PI) of the ‘FUNDEU’ project, financed by the NextGenerationEU framework. She is the Principal Investigator (PI) of the EU Horizon 2020 research project ‘Navigating Schengen: Historical Challenges and Potentialities of the EU’s Free Movement of Persons, 1985-2015’ (NAVSCHEN). From 2019 to 2022 she was Marie Skłodowska-Curie Senior Global Fellow at the European Studies Center (ESC) – EU Jean Monnet European Centre of Excellence (JMEUCE) of the University of Pittsburgh (Pennsylvania, USA) and at the Ca' Foscari University of Venice.

She previously was Assistant Professor in European Culture and Politics at the University of Groningen and ‘Santander’ Senior Fellow in Iberian and European Studies at the European Studies Centre (ESC) – St. Antony’s College of the University of Oxford, where she remains a Senior Member.

Since 2021 Dr. Blanco Sío-López is Executive Committee Member of the Global Young Academy (GYA), based at the German Academy of Sciences ‘Leopoldina’. She is also Full Member and Fellow of the Young Academy of Europe (YAE) and  Full Member (Académica de Número) of the Young Academy of Spain, as well YASAS Standing Delegate in representation of Spain for the EU SAPEA + project on ‘Science Advice for Policy by European Academies’.

She is UNESCO Inclusive Policy Lab (IPL) Expert and Expert and Peer-Reviewer of the ‘Global Compact for Migration’ for the United Nations Network on Migration (UN-NM). She was Chair of the North America Chapter of the Marie Curie Alumni Association (MCAA) in 2020-2021, which received the MCAA ‘Best Non-European Chapter Award 2020’.

She is also Associate Researcher at the ‘Association for Global Political Thought’ at Harvard University and Editorial Board Member of the Rights and Science Journal (R&S).

She previously worked as Principal Investigator, Lecturer and Leading Researcher R4 in European Studies at the Centre Virtuel de la Connaissance sur l’Europe (CVCE) of the University of Luxembourg for six years. She also worked as Research and Academic Associate at the Robert Schuman for Advanced Studies (RSCAS) in Florence for three years, as well as at the DG Enlargement of the European Commission and at the European Parliament in Brussels and at the US Congress in Washington, D. C.

She obtained her PhD in History and Civilization –with a specialization in European Integration History– at the European University Institute (EUI) and received the FAEY’s Best PhD Thesis ‘European Research and Mobility’ Award in 2008 for her work on narrative temporalities in the history of the EU’s enlargement process.
